Teen A-list December 2020 issue Interview with LIVVIA

Tell us a little about yourself and where you grew up.

I’m grew up in the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area. I started traveling back and forth to LA when I was in high school to collaborate with songwriters and begin pursuing a career in music. I was an economics major at UC Berkeley and completed my degree while touring and working full time as a musician.

What inspires you?

Things that happen to me, things that happen to my friends, plots of movies, books, and TV shows, beauty in nature, an interesting word, other songs... inspiration can be found everywhere!

How would you describe your music? Do you have a favorite song from your body of work?

My sound is my own take on pop music, a combination of a variety of influences, musical and otherwise. My favorite song I’ve released so far is my latest release, Monster! My main goals with my music are to inspire and empower my audience, and I love the message behind this song as well as the way it’s conveyed. Plus, it’s my favorite video — it’s actually more of a mini movie than a music video — and because I directed it myself, it was so cool to bring my vision to life.

What has been the most exciting moment of your career so far?

There have been so many. Opening for the Jonas Brothers on the Happiness Begins Tour was a big moment. I’m such a fan and that tour was unbelievably fun. Directing my music video for Monster was another one. It turned out almost exactly as I pictured in my head, lyric by lyric. Our all-star cast (Chris Pang, Skyler Samuels, Lukas Gage, Michele Selene Ang, Deric Augustine, Emily Tosta) killed it! Well, one of us did... it’s a murder mystery. You’ll have to watch to find out whodunnit!

What is the best advice you have been given?

You can’t control how people act, you can only control how you respond. It’s so true.

Who would you love to collaborate with?

Nick Jonas and I wrote a song together which was a dream come true. Having Quavo on one of my songs was also unreal. Working with the entire cast of Monster: the movie was an experience I will always treasure. As far as future collaborations, Chris Martin from Coldplay has always been one of my top dream musical collaborators.

Tell us some of your must have's: Favorite food, favorite city, favorite book.

My favorite food is the affogato milkshake from Cookies & Scream vegan bakery in London. Therefore, my favorite city is London! My favorite book is called London. Just kidding, I don’t know how I could ever pick. But I’m reading The Fate of Food by Amanda Little, gifted to me by Memphis Meats, an amazing cell based meat company that I’ve been following for years.

Let us in on any new projects you have coming up.

There are some exciting things in the works that I have to keep to myself now unfortunately, but for now, check out Monster and let me know what you think!
