RUDI / A-list Nation

Updated: Sep 18, 2020

We got the chance to interview the amazingly talented RUDI from ABC's The Bachelor Presents: Listen To Your Heart

Tell us a little about yourself. What’s up! It’s Rudi!! Basically I’m a lil Hispanic girl who grew up in San Antonio, TX with a huge family! I’m the oldest of 5 and we all sing and play music.

How old were you when you knew that music was going to be your career? Honestly, I know it sounds crazy, but I feel like I’ve known my whole entire life. By the age of 6 or 7, I knew that music was what I want to do for the rest of my life.

Was Lollapalooza your biggest performance? Tell us about that experience. I think my best performance has to be the ones that I did on “The Bachelor Presents: Listen To Your Heart” just because it was televised nationally and that’s something I’ve been working towards my whole entire life. So to get to watch that with my family and experience it was just surreal.

Musically who inspires you? I love all kinds of music! So many different types of musicians inspire me from Billie Holiday to Drake... different artist inspire me in different ways. I wouldn’t be the artist I am without old jazz. I also wouldn’t be the artist I am without R&B and pop music.

Who would you love to collaborate with?

If Russ could be a feature on one of my songs that would be sick. I also am loving Pink Sweat$ at the moment.

On ABC’s The Bachelor Presents: Listen To Your Heart, what was your favorite performance? What did you take away from the show?

My favorite performance has to be “Tennessee Whiskey.” I think because I knew that song and there was less pressure of having to memorize the lyrics, I was able to go up and just perform and have a good time. The biggest thing I learned from “Listen To Your Heart” was to just take each day one day at a time. I’ve always heard that expression but never really used it until I was filming on the show.

Tell us your new single “Stupid Boy”.

“Stupid Boy” is about getting over a person who maybe strung you along or thought that they could play you. Letting that person go, and just feeling good about it. Feeling free from drama and not giving a damn.

Is "Stupid Boy" about Matt?

I’d be lying if I said Matt wasn’t some of the inspiration behind the song. Unfortunately, I tend to date the same exact type of men. So really – shout out to all my exes this is for y’all.

Your vocals are amazing and we love both of your new songs “SMILE” and “HATE LA” tell us a little about them.

I wrote “Smile” and “Hate LA” around the same time, but they are both about different things and different people. A lot of people don’t know, but I actually wrote the chorus of “Smile” about my grandma and finished the verses about an ex. “Hate LA” is strictly about an ex that decided to leave to NY and ruin LA for me for a little bit LOL.

How has being in quarantine affected you musically?

It’s been tough. It’s hard to find inspiration after being home for four months straight, but you work with what you got and do what you gotta do. I also have a lot of free time so really no excuses to not get some solid stuff done.

Which are your favorite social media platforms?

Definitely Instagram. I’m also a sucker for a good Snapchat filter!

Where can our readers get more info on all your upcoming music?

Literally everything I do I post on my Instagram first. So if you’re not following me, you can follow me at @itsjustrudi and you can find my updates there.
